Celebrating Mother’s Day on a Budget
It’s officially May which means Mother’s Day is around the corner.
Worried about how to celebrate Mother’s Day while remaining on a budget? Don’t sweat it, there are easy, low-budget ways to show your mom (wife, grandmother, aunt, etc) you love her while on a budget.
Cook dinner at home.
Is mom constantly doing all the cooking? Give her the night off, without having to go to some expensive restaurant. Cooking will be cheaper than paying for your whole family to eat at a restaurant. Pick one of of her favorite meals, but odds are that she’ll love the meal regardless since you put in the effort. You can cook a meal big enough for the whole family and still have leftovers for the week.
MoCaFi Tip: You can make the dinner extra special by setting up the table with folded napkins and utensils arranged. You can also include candles to provide ambiance to the setting.
Gift shop at thrift stores or flea markets.
Does she need a new sweatshirt or mug? Maybe a new cookbook or suitcase or a cute sturdy bag to carry her items around? You can find great deals on gifts at thrift stores and flea markets. It may also give you ideas on what to look for next year as well.
Get creative with handmade cards.
Generic cards are nice, but with handmade cards you show your mom you care. You don’t have to be a super talented artist to make a card. Words that come from the heart are more meaningful than a catchy rhyme. Let your mom know how much her support and unconditional love mean to you.
Have a home movie night.
Pick up a bunch of your mom’s favorite movies and just kick back with some popcorn or another one of her favorite snacks. This is a great opportunity to spend some time with your mom if you haven’t done so recently.
Fix up any broken appliances around the house.
Have you been telling your mom you’ll fix something broken in the house, but haven’t gotten around to it yet? Did she buy new furniture and need help putting it together? Mother’s Day is the perfect time to get it done. Instead of spending money on an expensive gift, all you’re spending is a few hours of your time repairing items in your mom’s home.
Have an at-home spa session.
Show your mom you care about her health and well-being with an at-home spa session to relax her. All you need is some nail polish, essential oils, and soothing music. Give your mom a nice long massage with essential body oils, and provide a manicure/pedicure treatment to top it off.
